The Relationship Between E4A’s Principles of WIN THE HOUR & RESILIENCY

In the E4A program when we encourage our athletes to WIN THE HOUR it means that they are identifying their top priority in each hour of the day and then giving their best effort to that thing. We teach them that if they can master that skill, they will have a much more successful, and productive life.

We challenge our athletes try to go 16-0. What do we mean by that? Well, there are 24 hours in each day. It is recommended that one gets 8 hours of sleep leaving 16 hours. Going 16-0 means winning all 16 hours of the day that one is awake. When one goes 16-0, they can look at each hour of their day and say, “I gave my best efforts to my highest priority each hour of the day.” It may not be an easy task, but it’s the way one can build a successful life.

This leads to the relationship between WIN THE HOUR and RESILIENCY. It is hard to go 16-0 in a day. We have tried, and it is a rare day when you feel like you gave your best effort to every hour of every day. One thing that we have noticed though is the tendency to let one loss affect the whole day. You have seen this before in sports. A team loses a big game and then come out the next time they play and lay an egg because they are still being affected by the previous loss. We see it in thousands of people who begin a work-out plan and is faithful to it for weeks…then they sleep in, miss a day, and don’t return to the gym for the rest of the year.

Part of resiliency is learning to put failures behind you, letting them go, and moving forward in a way that will help you be victorious with the battles that lie ahead. The great thing about being victorious in the WIN THE HOUR realm of life is that victory is completely within your control. All that is required to WIN THE HOUR is the proper effort and attitude. You are not going to be perfect, but don’t let one failure turn into two. Don’t get discouraged. If you lost an hour, be resilient, look forward, and make sure that you give proper attitude and effort to the next hour. Hourly resilience is critical for a successful life and it is critical to winning the hour.

I really love that. I will work as hard as I can every single hour of the day. I will encourage others to work as hard as they can every hour of the day as well.
